Link Strategies

I have read lots of ebooks talking about search engine optimization by using link strategy. Most will tell you that you need to create one way link from a higher ranked site to your own for best SEO. If you already have a very high ranking this link strategy might work, but most newbies don't have a high ranking. Higher ranking sites won't want to put a one way link, or even a reciprocal link to you because it might hurt their ranking. This means you will have to do reciprocal linking if you are to improve your position. Content and link strategy seem to be high on the search engines formulas for page rank.

I know this will cause some eyebrow raising, but think about it, do you think any high ranking sites would create a link for you. It would more than likely hurt their ranking, so it doesn't seem likely they would link to your site. Link strategy is still a very high priority and comes in real close to content. Another key to link strategy is be sure and keep all links relevant to your website. All links are not equal. You need links that are popular and closely related to your sites content for good link strategy.

It is probably a good idea to check the keywords of any site you might wish to share links. The keywords should be similar to yours in order to keep a focused website. It would be ideal if the other site had a higher rank in the search engines; but that isn't always possible. All links that are relevant will only help in your effort to attain higher page rank. Reciprocal links are better than no links; just keep working at finding good matches and adding links complementary to your website.

The two most important things to accomplish with your link strategy is getting as many good links (one way to your site, or reciprocal) to websites with content similar to your website. Content may be king, but a good link strategy will only help in trying to get good page rank. Look for directories and forums that are very similar to your website and be sure and add a signature file.

If you are a good writer, you may want to consider writing good content articles and submitting them to sites that distribute them. Just put a note on your article that says they need to leave your sig file intact. The more places it gets used is usually best. The only bad situation is if the article only gets put on low ranking sites. The it could be a hinderance.

Each day you need to set up a work schedule that includes working toward improving the links to your website. Keep working to add new content and you should come up with a winner.
