To bypass oil company info and get the latest data
The major oil companies are probably the top marketers on earth; not necessarily the best, but they definitely know how to create and use shortages and increase profits. Here is something I found that locates and identifies the cost of gasoline. Maybe we can at least buy from the lowest price source available although all are not listed.
Savings Tips:
Keep your tires properly inflated
Change or clean your air filter as required Run as many errands as possible at one time Eliminate any extra weight by removing items not necessary from trunk or elsewhere. Others say to fill your tank either early morning or late evening because of the cooler temperature you get more gas per gallon. I'm not sure this is accurate because most tanks have underground storage and may have near constant temperature of the gas.Important SAFETY note:
Fires can occur from a static discharge igniting the gas vapor coming from your tank. Be Careful...
Ground yourself before removing your gas cap; if it's cold and you get back in your car after starting the gas pumping. Be sure to ground yourself before touching the pump nozzle because static electricity can build up on you from sliding in and out of the vehicle. They also say that women tend to do this more often than men.
Grounding requires you to touch a metal object that has a means of dissipating the static electricity. Some of the gas pumps have metal housing that is bolted to concrete. An air line plumbed in with metal pipe that runs under ground should be a good method of discharging the static electricity if paint isn't to thick. If when you touch the metal object you feel the discharge or hear a slight cracking sound that was you discharging.
It looks like it is going to be some before things get back to normal here in Kansas. I do have to comment on all the help that has arrived from all over the US. We don't know until something happens like this just how much everyone pulls together and believe me it is appreciated. My wife has worked some long hours with several different organizations the last few weeks; she takes the heat much better than I do. I have basically limited my help to that of close friends and relatives a few hours a day. Not that I wouldn't like to do more but the heat and humidity is just too much for me. It surprises me that more tempers haven't flared under these circumstances; but most have taken this better than anyone could have expected.
The real hard work is just now beginning, the process of cleaning up and rebuilding. Working together we should be able to get back on a more even keel; although it will take a great deal of time and effort before everything gets back to normal. If you want to see what it looked like here is a link to some pictures. Many of the pictures remaining were of conditions after the water had receded. Access was only allowed to first responders for about a week. I think it is pretty evident how hard a portion of our city was impacted by the flood. There were around 70 businesses directly affected and numerous others by indirect affects here in Coffeyville. We were left with only one operable motel and that meant outside volunteers had to fend for themselves. Several of our churches set up shelters and still have some displaced persons but nothing like the first of this month.
We have had quite a lot of excitement here in Southeast Kansas, almost every town and city has seen record flooding. Here in Coffeyville, water went over our levee by about 4 feet and turned the East side of town into a large pond. Water was up to rooftops on many businesses and homes. Most of our motels are located in that area and all sustained major damage. We are down to one motel accessible and many think it will cause us to cancel many activities in the next year. Our refinery got hit hard also and will probably be closed until the end of the year. One of the tanks was damaged and released 71,000 gallons of crude oil that covered everything it touched with an oil sludge.
The pumps at the water treatment plant failed and the city had to issue a boil order for any water used for drinking or cooking. This caused the shut down of all restaurants in town along with some other large water users. We have been lucky to have bottled water and ice being delivered for drinking and cooking purposes. Yesterday, it was announced that the State was taking over all the testing and determinations; since several of the first responders were getting sick and had rashes. It was then decided that no one other than State personnel would be allowed into the flooded area until it could be determined what was causing the sickness and rashes. The city has been asking for volunteers for various jobs that appear to be ongoing, we have several hundred people dislodged and are in temporary shelters.
I heard today, from unofficial sources that our Fair and Rodeo was being cancelled. We were lucky that we didn't lose power since some of the substations had gone under water. The power plant manager said that they had some concern and were acting to reinforce some transmission lines coming into the City. The length of time current and water had been on the poles had led to some of them leaning.
It appears it is going to be some time before our water will be back to normal and the cleanup, or whatever, will be opened up to citizens. I have been very lucky with just some inconvenience where others I fear may have to start over. Many have stated they didn't have flood insurance it had been around 60 some years since a flood of this magnitude had happened. The flood has demanded much time and effort from many and age has slowed me from many things I could previously accomplish.
I feel some disappointment in not being able to do more but that is life. In the early 60's I spent much time and energy sandbagging and evacuating people for fear of the levee at that time. That time the water just got to the top of the levee and we managed to divert the flooding with a lot of work. There were many volunteers this time but nature won the battle as the creat of the river was 4 feet above the levee.
I may take longer getting back up and running this time than ever before; Vista makes me have to hunt for things I knew automatically before. Then when something doesn't work I have to go through support sites and many of them must have a list of things to try. Each time I contact someone different, they want to go back to the beginning and start over with their list. Used to some people in support were actually knowledgeable and could get directly to the problem. I still have to unplug my high speed internet cable just about everytime I reboot and then plug it back in to make a connection to the Internet.
Then there is the problem of transferring files and folders and trying to get everything to work. As you know, I have purchased thousands of products and actually use many of them; some are not compatible with Vista. My next problem is that many of the suppliers don't mention Vista on their sales pages, making me have to contact their support and ask. Many of these support functions is nothing but email and response times aren't to keen especially if your just asking a question. I have already contacted my main suppliers and requested they list Vista compatibility or they will be put on the short list. Right next to the junk mail.
I have always used firewall and virus protection from one source; guess what they aren't Vista capable. Another learning curve to deal with, my computer came with a 30 day virus and firewall protection. The cost to update tells me they know that there major competitor is behind; they used to give 90 days protection. I decide to check with another supplier that I used to use free without problems, and I can get a 2 year subscription for less than one year with Dell's preference. There may be a joint venture going on here; but I'm not getting anything out of it, so I will go with "AVG".
Well, it's time to get back to the old grind and trying to get everything going. Hope you are having better days than me. Someday, I will get back to my new site and maybe get it up and running. Most of my purchases have been related to it recently; I have to keep leaning just like everybody else.
One last small note, I noticed that according to my stats, several people have visited my page related to public domain. Maybe it will make a comeback from a couple years ago. Have a GREAT Day, Darell
I hate changing operating systems; every time it takes me 3 weeks to get everything up and working again. Vista may be even worse, there are a lot of things not compatible with it; I even had one piece of software that the manufacturer said was pirated. I buy all my products so I must have purchased from an illigitimate source. The manufacturer did offer a small discount if I wanted to upgrade. Vista does forward info to the original manufacture's and they should know if it is pirated. I can't believe how long it takes to transfer data files when you have over a million. I also found that Vista updates automatically; it restarted in the middle of one of my uploads. I got up this morning and thought OK, it's all done. Then I had a message pop up saying it had automaticlly updated and restarted the computer; too bad they aren't smart enough to restart something after it finished running. Seems to me that if something is running they should wait for it to finish.
I've had a lot of visitors lately, but my data must need updating since only a couple joined. So, if you see some changes in the near future, it will be me updating the pages most often visited. I may never get my other paid membership site up and running at the rate things have been going lately.
When things go wrong... my monitor went out and you know what these things are almost worthless without being able to see what you're doing. I debated on buying a new monitor or just replacing the entire system and the new system won. I purchased a Dell with a new operating system "Vista" now I have to learn where everything is at. I really messed up instantly trying to hurry, it asked about language and gave a list.
I picked Armenian West, thought I was picking American; my language was listed as US English. When I assigned my computer name, I thought wow, they are even encrypting the name of the computer but not with asterisks. When I started to enter the password it went back to the usual asterisks; it's a good thing I decide to stop and look. Then I couldn't delete the first language and it was set to be the default; I had to stop and click on the language icon and change it to US. Otherwise, I couldn't read what I was writing and every now and then I forget to change to US once in a while and start typing when I look up I have no idea what it says.
The next problem is that some of my applications won't run on Vista and I still haven't found a good way of checking without just loading them. I did luck out about one thing, the new monitor would work with my old system. Now I am trying to work on downloading all my pertinent information. I found my old email application doesn't work well with the new operating system. The manufacturer is developing drivers and is suppose to email them to me in the near future. I have been amazed at how many times I go to the Internet looking for various items. When the monitor went out I was completely helpless and I walked back here at least 100 times to get some information or do some simple task.
I realized I have another problem, I download almost everything digitally or electronically; so I don't have disc's to load the new system with. I'm not sure how that is going to work yet; the new system checks for liscensed products and shuts them off if they aren't valid. Guess I'll find out.

While doing housekeeping on my computer I found an ebook that was available as a bonus with another purchase. Guess I need to actually look at what I get instead of just the product; I did gain about 10GB by taking time to review some purchases. I also found that I had several duplicate products. I sure need to find an easy way to list all my products in a database, but most of the time the sellers use an abbreviated name and I wouldn't know anyway. This is actually becoming a major problem for me since I buy so many products a month. I have hundreds of files and some of them have thousands of subfiles and to clean my hard drive I have to actually look at each one. Then, if I don't remember what was in the other files I may still have duplicates. If anyone knows a good way of making a listing of files within folders and sub folders I would sure like to know about it.
Sorry for getting off subject, I added the link to the page Here.
I found a great website recently and have been checking out what is offered. I believe it is the best training website I have ever seen. The guy started out working on stuff for eBay and has gradually expanded his business to include almost all aspects of marketing. The best part is it's audio/video and he explains things in step by step as well as screen by screen methods. He covers searching for products, design and development all the way through completing the final website for selling and downloading products. It is a paid membership site, but it would be worth every penny for any newbie and intermediate marketer. There are thousands of hours of video offered. He is good about creating new videos if there is a piece of information or other service that would be of benefit.
I have used many of his ebay products in the past and found they work. I am confident that he has created a membership site that if promoted properly will become one of the fastest and best for training purposes on the Internet. This appears to be a winner to me, especially for anyone just getting started in marketing. He makes some videos take longer because he gets off on why and how he has used the technique being explained. He also lists URL's of people or things used on video's, at least the ones I've had a chance to preview. I've looked at his list and length of his videos and believe me it will take a great deal of time to review them all. This may make reading all those newsletters I receive worthwhile.
If your interested in taking a look before prices go up Click Here. I have already joined and after checking out several video's decided it filled a need on the Internet and became an affiliate of Dave's...Darell
I forgot to mention that he does have a gaurantee and you can cancel at anytime. It is set up through PayPal and you can control if and when you want to quit. He keeps adding new material each month based upon the requests of the membership, their is a form on the site for suggestions and requests.
Added something I found that is suppose to help find keyword variables. I keep getting questions about keywords so when I see something I will try and add it to a page. It may or may not be useful, the guy is trying to sell an ebook and this is a method to get a one way link to his site for him. If a lot of people visit his site, the link to him will improve my SEO. You might want to use a similar method; the right product can get you additional exposure. The coding offered only locked up my browser. You always want to check when you add anything to your page and make sure it works; maybe even before changing the webpage. I hate it when I take time to do someone a favor and have it waste my time. Sorry, I will look for some additional keyword suggestion tools that work...Darell
Now, I'm doing something I shouldn't do, giving you a link to another site and moving you away from mine. That's suppose to be a big no,no. This did give some useful info and you might find it usefull.

Ok, I got away from the soap box; I was pretty upset the other day. I have been looking at stuff all over the Internet and found something that might be interesting and decided to add it to this page.
I understand that many of our members live outside the U.S.A. but I am upset enough from what I heard on the TV last night that I decided to speak my peace. They had a couple psychologists talking about when people would decide the price of gas had reached the level to stop p it. They said that there was no limit to what people would pay because today everyone just expects the price to go up. I hope this is not the case; but people here no longer are leaders, they are followers and whatever they hear on TV must be the truth. Our thinkers, must all be employed by large oil companies and hopefully are getting paid 46% more than they were before all this started. Otherwise they are losing ground the same way as the rest of us.
I would like to welcome all those that have signed up in the last couple weeks and I hope to get some additional material uploaded here in the near future. I will explain what is going on in the following paragraphs. A friend of mine put up some information about "MySpace" and asked what others thought about the social networking situation. I have several items related to social networking and guess as I find them I will try and make them available to our members. It does open some doors to traffic as they already have around 100,000,000 people signed up. We don't want to miss the opportunity this offers.
I may not survive this year, if things keep working the way they are right now. I have been spending hours and hours trying to get my new website up and running. I'd created several web pages and when I installed them on my new host they didn't tie together the way I thought they would; and now I've got to find out what has gone wrong.
There have been quite a few pretty good products made available at reasonable costs lately. It only happens when I'm covered up trying to learn something new. I will try and get some of them uploaded here as soon as I can catch my breath and get some sleep. I have so many products to categorize I wonder if I will ever get done. Now my mai hard drive says I have less than 6% space left and it's 250 GB. It means I will have to begin downloading to another drive or I won't be able to get anything done.
How many of you realize that we are almost half way through the year? It doesn't seem like it to me; but I have been staying really busy. I still haven't gotten the new website up and running yet. Although I am getting a little closer. I spent most of today cleaning out my email files and shutting down several subscriptions. I am going to limit myself to a lot fewer newsletters; basically the ones that I have paid subscriptions and receive products from.
If I try to read every email I receive there is no way I can get anything accomplished. One of my friends and associates asked me what I did first each day and how long I spent doing it. What do you suppose it was? Of course, email and with around 500 new emails a day it was taking almost all of my time. I was only receiving a few from subscribers and they were lost in all the rest. I just deleted and unsubscribed to over 300 newsletters; that should make a dent pretty quick. Most were affiliates of people that I purchase from, I usually get early notification about new products. When I'm a paid member I either get products free or at an extremely low cost.
I hope the next time i add something here I can tell you to go visit the new and improved website. I should have asked if any of you were familiar with PHP, CGI-BIN, SQL, and how to tie them altogether? I'm gaining but it is awfully slow. I have purchased a couple products that kind of explains it but they jump around a little too much for me. Well here it is 1:30 AM and I'm tired so I'm quitting for the night.
I hope to have the first few pages up on my new website by the end of next week. It will explain most of the details for the change and the way decisions were made. I am listening to some of my smarter friends and even though I still hastle them over somethings; I know they are right. They, think I have basically wasted 3+ years on the Internet, they have been making money and I sometimes break even. We've had some real heavy discussions about the Internet and marketing in general. I have always held that if you help people they will be loyal. They, let me have it with 15,000+ members and only 300+ active isn't good enough. I can't argue with them because I only have around 2% active and they are above 4% and are continually tweaking to gain more.
The funny thing is many have used my writings and ideas to reach their level of success. They are always pushing me to follow my own knowledge and start making some money. They may have succeeded this time; as I am actually changing a little while protecting the members I have. The people doing the pushing are also members and they never let me forget it. As always, I dance to the beat of my own drummer and will eventually get the other website up and going. My hosting service here is slowly but surely pricing this service out of my reach. I don't feel any pressure at present, but as the year draws to an end, I will have to make a decision about this site.
That means I must have the other site up and working and debugged in the next few months. It also means that I will have to begin doing things I have neglected in the past. Mainly, I will send out a bi-monthly newsletter, this is suppose to help me increase my members participation. If I offer good information and have or find value added products; that accomplish what they are suppose to accomplish then everything should take care of itself. I'm still holding out for quality and value but in between times I will also be keeping in touch. Another small change, and this will begin here first, I will maintain a loyalty to those that have participated in my affiliate sales efforts ('A' list discounts). Those that just couldn't bring themselves to use affiliate links I provided will still be treated fairly and still receive a bargain on products at a slightly higer price. This seems only fair to me, and I feel I need to reward loyalty with loyalty.
Thank you Kim, you are the first person to use the forum in a long time. I still think it is a very good way to communicate and it will only be seen by members signing into the forum. It's not like publishing to the world, on public forums. The funny thing was when I tried to answer it wouldn't accept my reply; today it seems to be working fine except I copied the email I sent you and when I pasted it in the forum the word wrap didn't come out right. I hope my email wasn't in the same format.
The new website is proving harder to tie together than I had anticipated. Of course, I'm trying to learn Dreamweaver and Fantastico with all it's options at the same time. I think I'm getting to be a slow learner, maybe it's my age creeping up on me. Since I retired I don't fight things quite as hard as I used too; I also don't set deadlines nearly as tight. That is my big problem now, When I get tired or aggravated I just go do something else for a while. That isn't a good plan that should be followed for someone trying to get started.
It's alright to take breaks and get your mind away from what your working on but don't make a habit of walking away for a week. A few hours at a time should usually refresh you, I always found a good walk to be useful when I was working and had deadlines to meet.
I am seriously considering removing the @ from my email it seems that the rogue spiders search through webpages and document any thing that has an @ in it. I have started receiving spam at the website now. Just learned something new and I'm not sure exactly what it does, I used the @ symbol and single quotes around it and it turned into some kind of link on this website. I will have to check on this with support. Back to what I was talking about, I notice several other webmasters have begun using [at] in their email addresses. Mine would change to and look like this: contact[at]ebooklisting.net. Of course, the programmers will write a routine that collects [at] as well as @ in a short time I suspect.
Have a GREAT Day, Darell
I have been busy creating new web pages for my new website and answering email. I just received a notice telling me I had received a message in the forum. I tried to answer in the forum and kept getting an error; I did notice that my webhost has made some changes (security) to the forum. I wrote a rather lengthy answer and had it disappear because of the error. That always makes you feel good, when you spend time doing something only to have it disappear through no fault of your own.
I have updated a few pages with some later thoughts but it didn't actually change what had been stated before. I noticed something else in checking my statistics. I am getting more visits from search engines than from prospects; kind of an unusual situation. One of my tracking tools I subscribe to uses the number of visitors to determine my costs. Now, I'll have to start watching something else and see if they use total visitors or eliminate search engine robots from their figures. I don't think so.
So far this month, I've had 4206 visitors that's 183 hits a day average the only problem I see is roughly 3500 are search engine robots. That means 83% of my traffic is search engines. No wonder my subscriptions have fallen off. Looks like I need to study this some more.
If I ever gat the new website up and running, we've decided to make some changes, my associates are telling me that "FREE" is a bad concept. I am pretty stubborn but what I'm being told is probably true. I have been arguing about leverage and numbers being important; but when we examined the actual numbers, I appear to be wrong. We are going to evaluate and categorize the products I can control and they will be divided into 3 categories (Workers, Managers, and Directors).
The Workers will be our newbies, the Managers will be more advanced and probably on the road to success, the Directors have already reached their initial goals and are looking for better and more automated products. Some of my rights to products doesn't allow me to give them away and others doesn't allow giving in a membership site. Our twist will be offering products at minimal costs to our members and the monthly membership fee will be used to cover costs associated with negotiating and purchasing new products for evaluation.
Have you ever read "Consumer Reports" they try to remain unbiased by buying and testing products themselves. This new website will do basically the same thing except we plan to use fees to negotiate better terms. It should allow us to lower the cost of products substantially. I have been testing using my own money and found it easier to get some good deals. This website is a business and as such needs to turn a profit. This will be accomplished by evaluating costs associated with each product and applying a small percentage to determine the actual price. Now the bad news, or maybe good news, the membership costs will be very low.
Workers since they don't have much money available will be charged $2 a month. Managers since they should be making some money will be charged $5 a month. The Directors are making good money and are probably wanting to keep up with the latest and greatest products will pay $10 per month. The products will be placed in each category and prices posted for each product. We will use a shopping cart to take care of sales. We believe the prices will vary from near nothing for workers to around $100 for the Directors products. There actual prices for the products would run from around $10 to $1000 if purchased somewhere else.
We hope to keep the majority of our free members from this website and worked hard to iron out a means to satisfy everyone concerned. It will alow us to make a small profit instead of not knowing what to expect. Today, out of 15,000+ subscribers it appears that only around 300 are actual buyers. We discussed and re-discussed ways to keep today's members. It was decided that even the members with little money need to make a committment to their business; and freebies would never get them to their desired position. They will still realize time savings and not be ripped off by "fly by nighters" because we have used the products and know they will work if applied correctly.
There will be more posted in the near future as we find and work out all the details.
I finally got the taxes done and money paid; I always hear how people get money back and they send their forms in early. I must be doing something wrong when it comes to taxes, even though I pay in more up front each year, I still have to pay in between $4,000 and $6,000 every year. Of course, I've never been audited (knock on wood) but I'd sure like to know what the others are doing. Some tell me I'm lucky because I'm making more money than they are but I sometimes have to wonder.
I have been working on my new website and as usual I'm behind. We have just about decided that it will be a very low cost membership site. We will be selling products to expand marketing knowledge, or software and scripts to improve quality of life for marketers. The prices will be unbeleivably low for members, I have found several exceptional developers that create very good quality products at reasonable price. It should allow me to sell at very reasonable prices; partially because of you the members. I have convinced a few developers to sell me rights at lower costs than the products will be offered on other websites. This has been a long and drawn out process but you and other subscribers have given me the leverage to bargain.
Now, if we can get all the stuff tied together, you should reap much of the benefits of this bargaining. Some of the items we "have to sell", even on a paid membership site, but the price will be lower than most others will be able to sell the products. Everyone is jumping on the dime sales and $7 products right now and that has helped drive costs down. We hope to offer a larger selection instead of one or two items a week and without timers running making prices go up. We feel we can compete and even beat the prices offered by those websites, using the economics of volume. We believe that low costs will allow more people to purchase and maintain a small profit margin.
We're going to take a little different position on these products; and may not have used every one of them. We just can't keep up with learning curve and evaluation of every product that comes out and stay up on the latest and greatest. We may ask for beta testers from the membership and compensate the testers either with free products or other goods. The testers will be asked to write a review of the products quality and useability based upon the sales data. This should speed up the process of finding better products at reasonable cost.
Right now, we're thinking of using several testers for each product; thinking a cross section of opinion would give the best overall opinions. We plan to offer the beta testing opportunities to our present members first; and then to new members. It may also be tied to members making more recent purchases through our site (being discussed). This will require us to send out an email asking for beta testers; we will start with small groups based upon the date you joined our membership. You may or may not want to become a tester; it will be your decision. If you turn us down and later change your mind; you can drop us an email and you will be allowed to join the testers.
The test products will be given to the testers but with the stipulation they are for personal use only. If, you determine you would like resale or master rights for selling the product, it would require paying a small fee determined by the type of rights. We are still discussing some of the details and will make a final determination within the next month. Our goal is to offer quality products at very low prices in order to use the economics of volume and yet make a small profit for our effort. Everyone in business is there for one reason; to make a profit we are no different. Thanks, Darell
Now is when I pay for the fun I've had, it's tax time here in the US. I always have to pay in several thousand dollars extra. So, I procrastinate until about a week before the deadline and this time my accounting application or my bank got me. I started downloading information from credit cards and banks and the data is messed up. Some of the data is in twice and some isn't listed at all. I have been working about 20 hours a day trying to get everything straightened out.
Needless to say I haven't got my new site up and running yet and I haven't added anything new here for about a month now. I hope everyone else has done a better job than I have so far this year. I've had more time and just seem to be wasting it; spending too much time reading and answering email and evaluating new products.
If I survive this tax deadline, I hope to get my new website up and running and sorting out all the products that I think are worthwhile. It will take me months just to upload all the products I have available that are worth using. This website may go by the wayside at a later time; partially because I refuse to send out email about offers. Today there are some pretty good products being offered at reasonable prices. I'm pretty sure I have some affiliate links to them somewhere on this website. I will try and dig them up and move them back to the top of this page as soon as I get my taxes done.
A guy's got to have a little fun once in a while. I follow my hometown College's sports teams. I just spent the last few days in Wichita at the NJCAA Regional Tournament, Both our Men's and Women's Basketball teams were there. Both teams made it to the championship round. Our women lost in overtime and the team from Seward County will advance to Nationals. Losing is always very hard after working so hard to get there. it is difficult to see the great accomplishments of our team at this point because of the agony of defeat. Our men's team won and will move on to Nationals next week. I will be there rooting for them as always.
I found a place to get rotating messages in a small rectangular box, and decided to try it out. It is kind of unique and I will leave it at the bottom of this page for a while. I am actually a subscriber to the site where I found this; I just hadn't visited in a while.
I'm still struggling with getting my new site up and running and I am about out of space on my computer and my 160 GB external hard drive maxed out. I purchased another 500 GB external hard drive for my backups this week end. I guess I had better get around and get it done. Thanks for visiting...Darell
I'm still struggling with getting my new site up and working the way I want it too. I appreciate your patience in my slowness in keeping this site updated. I'm not sure whether you are always checking back, or forgotten us. Many of my friends tell me that You have probably forgotten about the site. I may send an email one of these days just to see what happens. I know I'm not getting any un-subscribers.
A member called me recently and asked about an advertising website and wanted to know if I had heard anything about it. She said, she had signed up and was amazed at the responces she had received. Here is a direct link to it I had to sign up to get it. http://www.DesktopLightning.com/Darell It does appear to be
