In order to create a good plan you will need to know your expectations in terms of dollars. Once you know how much you intend to make you can start creating a plan for accomplishing this task. If you already have a product and have an associated dollar value; it is probably easier. Take the amount you want to make and divide it by the cost of producing and selling your product. This will tell you the quantity you will need to sell of your product in order to reach your dollar goal. Some call this planning by the numbers.

No matter how good of job you do in planning; it will require some adjusting as time goes by. The best laid plans can go awry if not adjusted to meet new conditions. Planning is just like everything else it's just a guide to keep you heading in the right direction. Adequate planning will help keep you focused, but you must also watch the outcome to be sure it is what you expect; if not, you probably need to adjust your plan. I would suggest looking at the results of your work on a regular basis to insure your plan is still moving you in the right direction.

It is sometimes easier to sell fewer items at higher cost; than lots more items at a lower cost. For example, lets say you want to make $50,000 a year and you have a product that makes $20 per sale. (50000 / 20 = 2500), you would have to sell 209 units to reach your monthly goal (2500 / 12 = 209). Nothing to difficult about this, you just have to do the numbers. Of course if you had a $200 per sale product 50000 / 200 = 250 at this rate your monthly sales would only need to be 21 (250 / 12 = 21).

Most start off with a lower price product and then concentrate on higher priced backend sales. The more you increase your sales amount the less you have to sell to reach your goal. This should give you a pretty good idea of planning by the numbers.

I wrote a little program that lets you just fill in the blanks to get the answers for planning by the numbers. Look at it, if you want to use it it's yours. Planning Use it at your own risk it is an executable program. I can't offer any guarantee, I wrote it in a few minutes and barely tested it. It appeared to work on my platform.

Planning helps to keep you focused on your final objective. Good planning leads to good results, and less mistakes. Any plan needs to be flexible and you must make changes as different things impact your plan. Good planning will get you to your desired goal faster than any other method. Take the time to create your plan; then work your plan.
